I had to share this lovely wedding with you, it was pure Gatsby glamour that fitted so well with the season. The colour scheme was navy and gold so the bridal flowers were ivory, blush with a hint of blue and grey. Being December The George in Rye looked splendid with Christmas tree, fairy lights and all the trimmings. Photographer Joe Kingston took stunning photographs capturing the spirit of the day.
Kathryn and Mark had paid a lot of attention to detail and it paid off as the following record of the day shows.

2016 got off to quite a slow start but went right through the year with our last wedding on the 29th December. Quite a few trends came through with grey being very popular particularly for bridesmaids dresses and foliage, blush pink for flowers and metallics crept in for accessories. Yellow made an appearance a few times and gypsophila stilled proved popular but with the addition of lavender in some cases. Style wise it was very relaxed, country and even wild in some case – just how we like it!
Below is a snap shot of some of our weddings and I will be featuring some in more detail in later posts.

Lovely moment with Kathryn & Mark at The George in Rye by Joe Kingston
Our first wedding of the season was at the wonderful Battle Abbey and was full on spring with ranunculus, anemones, hellebores, paperwhites, tulips, genister, white thistle in fresh green and whites. The groom was keen to include snowdrops so we put them in his buttonhole and on the tables.
Thanks to Matt Harquail for the lovely professional images, some of my own have sneaked in too!

Here comes the bride and the groom is waiting!
It’s official!

What a lovely record of Katrin and Joe’s February wedding.
It does feel a bit strange posting a blog about a winter wedding when we are all looking forward to spring but I did not want to wait nearly a year to write about this wedding just because it is out of season. Gemma and Glen picked the wonderful The George in Rye Hotel for their December wedding and chose local suppliers to complete the day. Lauren-Louise Professional Hair and Makeup added the glamour and Debbie Sanderson Wedding Photography captured the day perfectly.
We provided the flowers which with weddings falling between Christmas and New Year can sometimes be a bit tricky as the flower markets are affected by the holiday season like anyone else. However Gemma knew what she wanted from the start and had chosen classic ivory roses with a touch of blue and we decided on thistle and the metallic blue/black vibernum berry.
Being Christmas the venue was dressed for the occasion and we added an extra touch with jam jars on the aisle chairs.
Gemma and Glen were a lovely couple who clearly enjoyed their day and included their children every step of the way. Gemma’s daughter was one of the flower girls and her son gave her away.
Glen chose his son for his best man
And the party started!
Right through to the cutting of the cake by Claudia of Purple Flour a simple but effective cake incorporating all the elements of the wedding, blue and white for the flowers with grey hearts and sat on a wooden crate for a more natural feel. The bridal bouquets around it and bottle in the crate gave it extra flower power!
The Royal Wells Hotel had an extensive refurbishment at the beginning of last year opening for business again in May. It incorporated the latest facilities and contemporary style, while retaining its Victorian elegance and period features and proves to be a popular wedding venue.
The Mount Ephraim Suite
We had the pleasure of providing flowers for quite a few couples last year and here is a snapshot. August was a busy month kicked off by Katie and Neil’s wedding beautifully photographed by Sarah Williamson Photography. They wanted mixed summer flowers to include cornflowers which the groom wore proudly!

Later that month Jo and Marina tied the knot again with a summer mix of of flowers but in pastel shades of pink, cream and blue including roses, hydrangea, stocks and delphiniums:
It is popular at this time in a new year to look back over the last one and it was quite a year in that The Flower House went from retailer to freelancer in April so the majority of our weddings were created in the Studio, hence the slight change of name.
We also had a new website designed by dn-webdesign.com, I joined Instagram and vowed to be more proactive on social media! That is something I must embrace this year too along with regular blog posts and a new portfolio for our stand at various wedding fairs dates for the next couple of month are as follows:
January – Blackstock Farm Open Day 17th & Wedding Fair 24th Jan. We will also be at Bannantynes on that day.
I am also working on our Pinterest boards, if you are a bride to be, we will create one for you and there will be lots of general wedding ideas. Many of last years weddings have appeared in previous blogs but there are a few still to be reviewed.
I usually have a little prediction at this time of year as to what I think will be popular for weddings for the current year so here goes – we will continue to see blush & grey, along with metallics, be it silver, pewter, copper or gold and this could be in the form of sequins, table ware, dress and cake embellishment and ‘luxe’ being a key word.
As we are nearing Christmas I thought a seasonal post might be good including our trip to Germany, wreath making and weddings. It has been unseasonably warn so it was nice to spend along weekend in Germany where it snowed and the Christmas markets were in full swing. They not only have the traditional gifts and gluhwein but loads of pine wreaths, foliages and sparkle. Below are a couple of shots of Munich Christmas Market.
And as the light began to fade a florist shop lit numerous candles and tea lights, my photo’s do not do it justice, it just looked magical.
We also visited Fussen where there is a fairy tale castle and lovely scenery.
And I can’t forget to mention the wonderful Christmas Tram, decked out with baubles and fairy lights!
Wreaths are always a feature in December and we did a workshop for a group of ladies who have been regulars for the last 4 years and I actually had time to do one for myself this year!
I went quite traditional using foliages from the garden but did a ‘winter whites’ one for a customer with matching table arrangement. I always like this combination of grey foliages and whites.
I also really like this eucalyptus one I did a couple of years ago, you can’t go wrong using just foliages.
And now to the weddings, only my photo’s at the moment.
The first one was at The Gallivant which is a great venue if you want somewhere a bit different as it is opposite the sand dunes at Camber Sands. The brief for colours was ‘whites, sea foam, mint, soft grey and blush tones to compliment the beachy location’ The general feel was to be romantic with candles and tea lights adding to the atmosphere. The styling was done by Alexandra Merri of The Bijou Bride.
We created a mainly foliage arch with hanging tea lights at the entrance and storm lanterns lined the aisle with pretty jam jars on the chairs.
The brides bouquet and reception flowers had more colour in and complimented the pompoms nicely.
We were then at Blackstock Barn for Amy and Mitches wedding who had similar seasonal colours of grey, a touch of blush and festive foliages. Their table centres were storm lanterns in wreaths with a touch of sparkle from the silver reindeer and pine cone place names.
We have one wedding after Christmas which I will share in the New Year.
The George is a great venue for a wedding with couples having the choice to hold the whole affair there or just the reception with the ceremony in Rye Town Hall or local Church. We have had the pleasure of providing many couples with flowers for their weddings at the hotel and this year was no exception. Firstly we have the most wonderful photo’s supplied by Nick at ‘Parkershots – Kent Wedding Photographer’ for Becki & Al’s wedding back in May. The images tell the story beautifully starting with Becki who looked stunning and wanted a summer English country garden mix for her flowers, they included delphinium, peony, astilbe, David Austin roses, thistle, dahlia…

And on to August when Gary and Lauren got married in St. Mary’s Church with the reception at the George. The lovely photo’s here are by Kerry Ann Duffy Photography who really captured the spirit of the day. Lauren looks amazing as she steps out ready for the day!

And another perfect day, do take a look over on kerryannduffy’s blog too for more of this one.
We have done a few more at The George but only have my photo’s – Elen & Tom back in June went for coral and ivory, I am hoping to get some of their photo’s as Elen wore a red dress and it is always good to see something different!
Caroline and Adam’s wedding in September was great, I had the enquiry on the 5th September, saw them the following day and they married on the 23rd of the month! Now that’s a good way to do it, no faffing, decisions made and done. They had an intimate gathering for 12 and were having a bash on return from their honeymoon. They chose ivory, grey and blush:

Later that month Lizzie and Mark tied the knot in The Town Hall and back to The George for the reception. Varying shades of pink and ivory were the colours, roses and freesias the main flowers. It started with an ivory welcome heart to the Ballroom:
And mixed vases on the tables:
Again I am hoping to have some of the official photo’s as the brides neice made a gorgeous flower girl.
We have another couple of weddings to go at this lovely venue in December which will be featured next year.
Having done the last post and looking through this years weddings generally, a colour I over looked in my predictions was grey! It has popped up time and time again in varying shades for bridemaids and bouquets and you can see why as it is very versatile going so well with pinks, blues, mauves. And don’t forget silver and white which are particularly good as we go towards winter! There are numerous grey foliages which give great texture too.
Here is Leanne with her bridesmaids before the wedding at Blackstock Barn
Sally and her bridesmaids at Wadhurst Castle – thanks to Jen at Jennifer Jane Photography for the image.
Here we have the grey foliage and silver vase which is extremely useful as the images below show!
Love the Dennis Bowden mimosa in this one, a real favourite of mine.
There will be more grey and silver before the year is out and that’s a fact.
In my introduction to this years weddings I mentioned how the less compact bouquet has become popular. It is less structured and very natural and works wonderfully with eucalyptus foliage. Below are a few created for actual weddings and wedding fairs. To start with is the image Charlotte sent to me, the bouquet created and it in action at Swallows Oast when she married Tom in August.
We now have some lovely pastel bouquets in blush, greys, mauves and white.
And to finish with a warm, seasonal bunch in creams and browns with scabious seed heads and photinia foliage. Firstly before delivery and then at the wedding of Karen and Dominic at The Old Rectory in Hastings in October.
